Most Mainers are at least vaguely aware of the persistent regional disparities that have stimulated long-running debates about the "two Maines problem" and "what to do about the other Maine." This collection of short thought pieces confirms that there are in fact several Maines, when it comes to economic conditions and prospects. Essays by Ed Cervone, and Charles Lawton apply the useful division of coastal, central and rim counties to show distinct, and in some cases widening, gaps in income, unemployment, poverty, and migration.
