To obtain information necessary for managing landlocked salmon (Salmo salar Linneaus) in Maine rivers, fishing and fishermen were studied on an 18.5 km section of the west branch of the Penobscot River in 1975. Creel survey data were obtained, and the total days of fishing were estimated. Questionnaires were given to fishermen to determine their socio-economic characteristics, their expenditures, and information related to their use of the river.
