In 1981, concerned about whether the State's spruce-fir inventory would be able to continue to supply wood at harvesting levels in the 1970's, the Maine Forest Service contracted with James Sewall Company, Old Town to carry out a spruce-fir supply/demand analysis. The report describes the reason for the study, how it was carried out, what the results indicate, and what the implications are for future public forest policy decisions.
