The Study of Resistance to Aphids in Crop Plants

Problem Addressed: Insect resistance in crop plants

Key Findings: Progress has been made on the practical use of resistance to aphids in the release to Kansas farmers of corn hybrid Kansas 1859, Ladak alfalfa, and Dicktoo barley, each resistant to a different aphid species. These are being used in plant breeding and give promise of eventual production of insect resistant varieties.

The Uptake of Sevin by Pacific Oysters and Bottom Muds

Key Findings: While Sevin residue in bottom mud was present at a higher level than in oysters following direct application, it declined rapidly to a barely detectable level in 8 days and disappeared by the 16th day.
