Problem Addressed: Dynamics of down coarse woody debris under an expanding-gap harvesting system
Goal(s)/Objective(s): To compare volume, biomass, diameter-class, and decay-class distributions of CWD in permanent plots before and 3 years after harvest and to determine wood density and moisture content by species and decay class
Key Findings: Both harvesting treatments increased the volume and biomass of non-decayed, small-diameter CWD although the trend is likely more complex because of the superimposition of small-scale natural disturbances and repeated silvicultural entries

Goal(s)/Objective(s): Provide relevant research for current issues facing family forests: forest pests, timber harvesting, recreation access, intergenerational transfer, etc.
Key Findings: CRSF is actively engaged in research and outreach that benefits Maine's non-industrial private landowners (also called family forest or small woodland owners). Mainers owning small parcels of land (10-1,000 acres) comprise 34% of the forests in Maine.

The role of vegetation management for enhancing productivity of the world’s forests

Problem Addressed: Influence of competing vegetation on regenerating forests
Goal(s)/Objective(s): Review results from longest-term studies in North America, South Africa, South America, and New Zealand/Australia.
Key Findings: About 25% of studies had volume gains from 100 - 200 per cent. Over half had 50 – 300% yield increases. Three-quarters showed yield gains from 30 - 500%
