Maine wood products companies are actively renewing production facilities and have a high interest in new technology applications. In mail and phone surveys, they indicated strong interest in learning about improved technologies capable of addressing problems in labor costs, safety, raw material costs and quality, product yield and quality control, drying, preservation and marketing. Companies obtain most of their technology from equipment suppliers, with other mills a distant second. There was a strong expression of interest for expanded technology support for the industry. Long-term raw material supply, cost, and quality concerns could be addressed by intensified forest management.
