The forest enterprises have an increasing demand for better information to assist planning, control, and decision making in forestry. The information has to be complete, up to date, accurate, and timely in order to meet the competitive needs of forest enterprises. The objective of this effort is to develop a computerized information system to evaluate equipment and associated manpower levels throughout Maine and the Northeast. The particular survey that was the focus of the system involves wood-producer organizations in this area. An association that represents these producers and those companies that contract with and/or purchase roundwood from the many producer organizations was the recipient of survey information.
