Historically, most of the sawmills on the Penobscot River were located in a 15 mile stretch from Milford and Old Town down through Orono and Veazie to Bangor and Brewer. The following is a description of how logs were rafted at this place, including discussions of dropping-off, running, sharing, and the driving of logs to the mills, together with excellent matter on subsidiary and supporting operations at Nebraska, Pea Cove, and other places within the Penobscot Boom complex. Profusely illustrated with many photographs, maps and diagrams.
