An investigation was conducted to evaluate the effect that position in the tree and specific gravity have on the quality of sulfate pulp from plantation grown red pine. Nineteen 48 year old red pine trees were selected and chip samples from the butt, middle, and top portions were separated. Pulp yield and physical strength tests were conducted on these chip types and the results evaluated.
