A field study was designed during the summer of 1977 and 1978 to compare the efficiency of seven methods to evaluate the impact of spruce budworm spray operations on bird populations. Methods were simultaneously tested in a control and an experimental plot submitted to heavy dosages of phosphamidon and fenitrothrion. Results indicate that all methods are susceptile to give indices on effects of insecticides used on a large scale. Studies on hatching, growth and fledging of young birds are recommended to assess the effects of a new insecticide and its acceptability on an operational basis.
