A study was made to determine the effect of age, site index, stand density, and stand composition upon the cubic- foot yield per acre and average tree size of even aged spruce-fir stands in Western Maine. Measurements were made of 87 variable size sample plots purposively located to secure representative sample of stages in the natural development of spruce-fir stands. Sample plots were circular in shape and of sufficient size to encompass ten over story trees. Stands were considered to be even aged if the range in age at breast height of the over story trees did not exceed 15 years.
