A brief description of the current spruce budworm infestation on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia is given. The development of a program to salvage and store up to 500,000 cords of dead and dying spruce fir at roadside is described. An outline of harvesting activities is presented and problems and results associated with the goals of utilizing, in a given period, a large quantity of pulpwood stored at roadside are considered.
