There is currently a lack of forest operations training opportunities for professional loggers and foresters in Maine, limiting the ways in which these professionals can expand their knowledge and upgrade their skills. On-the-job-training can be very effective, but is better when complemented with formal training sessions. This allows participants to learn from others' mistakes and eliminates some of the costly trial-and error learning that accompanies much on-the-job training. The proposed Forest Operations Institute (FOI) could help provide valuable training to Maine's working loggers and foresters. This study attempts to determine just what firm such a training organization should take, what topics should be addressed, and how to best deliver the training material.
