The Maine Bureau of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service collaborated in testing Zectran (mexacarbate) at two dosage levels and three application rates against the spruce budworm in the summer of 1973. Objective of the test was to determine the efficacy of reduced application rates and dosage levels in reducing larval populations of the budworm and minimizing the amount of defoliation occurring in a given year.
