The moose (Aloes americana, Clinton) was once a much sought after game species in the State of Maine. Today, due to poaching, disease, and doubtless to other factors the moose population has reached a point where open seasons are no longer advisable, though their numbers have apparently been gradually increasing again during the last few years, at least in Central Maine.
