Aerial forest insect .control operations with which we are familiar all rely on techniques that would be classified as ULV by your definition. Field experience shows that, when properly planned and implemented, such aerial operations are effective against the target pest in reducing defoliation and reducing population. Such control operations have been applied to prevent Loss of timber and to preserve aesthetic values. Since forest insect control operations at dosages higher than 1/2 gaL/A, are rare, we cannot offer any evidence as to the relative efficacy and safety of ULV in forest work with higher application rates.
