Changes in land use, were analyzed from cover type maps of highly productive deer (Odocoileus virginianus) range in south-central Maine. Type maps were prepared from aerial photographs taken in 1957, 1966, and 1974. Forest land area increased from 71.2 percent in 1957 to 76 percent of the study area in 1974. The land area occupied by reverting farmland remained relatively stable at 5.6 percent of the total acreage.
