White pine plantations in the Orono, Maine area were sampled to determine the level of weevil damage. Approximately 40% of the white pine growing in an unshaded habitat were weevil damaged. White pine planted in close spacings exhibited less weevil damage than adjacent white pine planted at wider spacings. White pine growing in a shaded habitat were damaged by the weevil less often than white pine growing in an unshaded habitat.
