The ecological relationships between deer and vegetation on Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine, were studied from September, 1965 to June, 1967. The objectives of the study were: (1) to develop a sound sampling design to assess the influence of the deer herd upon the vegetation and, (2) evaluate the physical condition of deer to obtain an insight to range conditions from another perspective.
