The Dwight B. Demeritt Forest of the University of Maine consists of approximately 1740 acres of land in Orono and Old Town. This forest has served as a site for education, research, demonstrations, and training of students in the College of Forest Resources since the 1940s. The forest also provides substantial recreational opportunities for the 30,000 people residing within Minutes of it's boundaries. The Demeritt Forest exists today because of the foresight and efforts of several people over fifty years ago. One of these individuals was professor Dwight B. Demeritt, for whom the forest is named.
