- Retaining big trees (DBH>50 cm) is not benificial to get high value timber as they possess higher proportion of decay and discolouration
- Minimize harvesting damage to increase proportion of high vigor (R1 and R2) trees in the stand
- As vigorous trees are likely to have less discolouration, let canopy trees grow vigorous crown by reducing competition
- Avoid red maple while choosing crop trees for residual stand during partial harvesting in northwest New Brunswick.
