A survey was conducted to determine the extent of tree mortality in the spruce fir forests of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. The USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area, Forest Pest Management staff, was responsible for the survey. Cooperators were the State forestry agencies of New York, Vermont, and New Hampshire. The survey was conducted from July 1984 to January 1985. Methods used were adapted from previous Forest Pest Management loss assessment surveys.
