The 1972 aerial spraying operation in New Brunswick was the twentieth conducted by Forest Protection Limited to prevent continued massive budworm damage in high hazard areas. The results of studies and surveys to assess the efficacy of the spray program and to forecast conditions for 1973 are summarized. In 1972, no new poisons were tested against larvae, but an oil solution of fenitrothion was used over a larger portion of the spray plan and operational spraying was started as soon as possible after larval emergence. In addition, experimental spraying, was conducted against the adult stage of the budworm. The results of these trials are summaried in a separate report.
