- Eco-Analysts, Inc.
Two formulations of ORTHENE (acephate) were tested against the spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana) in Maine in 1982. One rate of ORTHENE Forest Spray (0.5 lbs. AI in 2 Quarts water) and two rates of ORTHENE Specialty Concentrate (0.5 lbs. AI in 1 and 2 Quarts of water) were applied on 500 acre blocks.
Excellent protection was obtained on balsam fir and red spruce trees with the ORTHENE Forest Spray and the 1 Quart rate of Specialty Concentrate. The 2 Quart rate of Specialty Concentrate was only marginally successful.
Spray deposit was inconsistent among the three applications. The 1 Quart rate of Specialty Concentrate was successful in protecting trees with good spray deposit, The 2 Quart rate of Forest Spray was successful with marginal deposit, and the 2 Quart rate of Specialty Concentrate was marginally successful with poor deposit.
