The study area was limited to Corinna Stream and the adjacent marsh and wooded sone. It is located in southwestern Penobscot County near the town of Corinna. Field work was begun on April 1951 and was terminated the following September 1. Information was obtained on the abundance and distribution of aquatic plants and their relative importance to waterfowl using the area. A record was kept of the monthly water fowl fluctuations. Courtship and mating activities of the ring-necked duck and blue-winged teal were observed. Nests of the wood duck and blue-winged teal were observed. Nests of the wood duck, black duck, and ring-necked duck were found. Broods of American Goldeneye, ring-necked duck, black duck, wood duck, and blue-winged teal were observed. Data were obtained on the detailed activities of three ring-necked duck broods which could be recognized throughout the brood stage. Possible causes of brood mortality were investigated. Limited information was obtained on the moulting activities of resident species. The estimated productivity for each resident species was computed. Suggestions w made for managing the area in order to increase waterfowl production.
