The objective of this case study analysis was to evaluate the suitability of a conventional (chainsaws and skidder) and a mechanical (shear/de limber and grapple skidder) harvesting operation for partial cutting in red spruce stands. The condition of the residual stands was assessed by determining damage levels for each of the harvesting systems. Impact of the damage on future growth and economic value was projected using the computer simulation.
