As was stated in the 1958 report, appreciable budworm populations for 1959 were expected in an area of over 150,000 acres west and south of the sprayed area. The total area of noticeable budworm infestation had diminished considerably in 1958, with indications of continued contraction. However, the extensive survey program was necessarily continued to obtain current information on budworm populations, their distribution, natural control factors, and the condition of infested forest stands.
