This investigation of the growth pf residual red spruce trees in partially cut stands in Washington County, Maine, was designed to accomplish three objectives. These were (1) to establish certain correlations and relationships between selected tree and stand characteristics and basal area of growth of these trees for periods prior to and following partial cutting, and (3) to evaluate the effectiveness of the marking rules in terms of increasing the basal area increment of the residual stems.
