The poplar Gall maker, Saperda inorata Say, and the poplar branch borer, Oberea schaumii Leconte, are two species of cerambycidae that infest small stems and branches of Populus tremuloides Michaux and P. grandiddentata Michaux in Michigan. Their low-level infestations result in tree deformity, growth loss, and in heavy infestations. The objectives of this research were to determine the dispersal potential, egg niche production and mortality factors of the adult, to investigate egg viability, early larval survival and larval survival to the end of the first winter, to test for colonial resistance to infestation, and the evaluate the importance of mating in egg viability.
