Four studies are being reported upon. One represents microtensile tests made on specimens cut from a cross-sectional disk of a young western hemlock tree. Another concerns specimens from three 80-year-old Douglas fir trees exhibiting superior, average or inferior Cross and Bevan cellulose contents, respectively [8]. A third, representing a recently completed Ph.D. thesis [9], is discussed briefly and the fourth, a proposed Ph.D. project [3], is merely introduced.
