Summary of the USDA Forest Service Final Environmental Statement — Western Spruce Budworm Management Plan (1977)
- The Forest Service
Based on entomological, biological, and economic considerations, the Forest Service, in cooperation with the Idaho Department of Public Lands and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, plans to manage western spruce budworm by long-term special silvicultural treatments on 934,019 acres out of a total infestation of 3,151,985 acres. The option of chemical management with Sevin-4-Oil is retained for future use in infested stands on or adjacent to high value sites. This includes seed production areas and developed recreation sites, both existing and planned. Frequency of chemical application will depend on cyclic budworm infestations and expected rates of reinfestation.
