Spruce Budworm in Maine in 1959
- Maine Forest Service, Entomology Division
- USDA Forest Service Northeastern Forest Experiment StationIn
Intensive spruce budworm surveys were continued in 1959 to evaluate the previous year's spraying activities and to determine the status and trend of budworm populations and parasites throughout northern Maine. All phases of the work were again handled cooperatively by entomologists of the Maine Forest Service and the New Haven Laboratory of the Northeastern Forest Experiment Station. The total area of noticeable budworm infestation had diminished considerably in 1958, with indications of continued contraction. However, the extensive survey program was necessarily continued to obtain current information on budworm populations, their distribution, natural control facts, and the condition of infested forest stands.
