A continuing spruce budworm infestation in the northeastern United States and Canada has prompted the formation of a joint, international research effort to tackle the budworm problem. This effort, the CANUSA Spruce Budworms Research Program, is dependent upon local and regional groups to. help identify researchable goals and establish priorities for problem solving. One such group is the Eastern Spruce Budworm Research work Conference, organized last year at Orono, Maine. From its inception, the purposes of the Conference have been to: (1) determine the status of current and future research activities, (2) identify research needs, and (3) establish priorities.
