A stochastic simulation model, WTDDYNMC, was developed to examine the population dynamics of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) in Maine. Whereas many population models require users to determine and input mortality and reproductive rates, WTDDYNMC is distinctive in that rates are derived from input variabLes and those generated within the model. Data from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and other available sources were used to derive the initial mortality and birth rate estimates.
