The Dwight B. Demeritt Forest is one of 35 parcels of forestland owned and managed by the University of Maine and managed by the University Forests Office. Recent forest inventory cruises occurred in 1986 and 1995. To maintain roughly ten years between major inventories meant that the D.B. Demeritt Forest was due for an inventory in 2006. Rather than follow the data collection methodology of previous cruises, the 2006 forest inventory was designed to sample the forest using a similar method, but include many more individual tree measurements.
