In the state of Maine there is a need for state-wide forest cover type maps prepared at a uniform scale to be used when planning for spruce budworm suppression activities. The research reported here compares the use of two scales of high altitude panchromatic photographs prepared from common negatives (1:62,500, and 1:80,000), three dates of LANDSAT black and white transparencies at a scale of 1:1,000,000, and a LANDSAT computer compatible digital tape (CCT) for preparing forest cover type maps at a scale of 1:62,500.
