During the last two decades the jack pine budworm, Archips fumiferana Clem., has caused considerable damage to jack pine stands of various age classes. Since it was first reported on pine, this pest has been referred to as the pine variety a subspecies if not a separate species. Regardless of the final taxonomic position to which it is assigned, the fact that it's attacks are usually restricted to pine greatly simplifies the problem of control.
