Biomass, Nutrient Elements, Harvesting and Chipping in the Complete Tree Concept
- Young, E. Harold
The Complete Tree Concept: biological and technological investigation of the entire tree from the root tips to the leaf hairs is a positive approach to our national concern about the conservation of our national- resources and our environmental effort to reduce pollution. Biomass, the weight of living matter, is the best approach for measurement of every component of the standing forest. Coupled with reliable moisture sampling and modern chemical- analytical techniques it is not only possible to reliably estimate the dry matter of every component of the forest but also the nutrient element content on a per acre basis. To maintain the forest ecosystem in a balanced state such information is essential so that harvesting does not deplete the available nutrient pool in the forest.
