In may 1978, Bacillus Thuringiesis, formulated as thuricide 16B, was applied operationally for the first time against the spruce budworm in Maine. Efficacy studies were conducted. In terms of foliage protection, the operation was successful. Larval mortality was B1% in the treated area compared to 727" ln the unsprayed controls, and survivors were smaller and retarded 1n development compared to the untreated area.
