The major objectives of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) To analyze causes of variation in specific gravity found in Douglas-fir trees sampled. (2) To evaluate genetic and environmental effects on specific gravity found in the Douglas-fir trees sampled. (3) To compare variation in specific gravity of juvenile wood and mature wood. (4) To establish the heritability of specific gravity in the plantations studied.
