A Review of Studies in Maine on the Impact of Aerial Applications of Sevin-4-oil on the Macroinvertebrate Fauna of Streams and Ponds
Problem Addressed: Effects of Sevin-4-oil
Key Findings: Evidence of a relatively severe impact on the fauna and persistence of residues in the sediment indicate that ponds as well as streams should be included in future monitoring programs

Sevin-4-oil has been applied aerially for control of spruce budworm in Maine since 1975 and will be used extensively in 1978. Monitoring of the effects of these applications on aquatic insects have indicated that the effects may be severe. It therefore seems appropriate to review the studies and to comment on their implications.
