A new technique is described for determining the specific gravity, on a green volume basis, of small wood samples, such as the portions of increment cores. The technique uses the well-known relationship between maximum moisture content and specific gravity and obviates the direct determination of the volume of the sample. It has certain advantages over the mercury- and water-immersion methods.
