1987 Precommercial Thinning Workshop
- Hugh John Flemming Forestry Centre, Frederiction, N.B.
The objective of this meeting is to bring together the existing information regarding precommercial thinning 1n this Region. In short, how we have gotten to where we are, where we expect to go from here in utilizing this significant forest management tool, to describe growth results attained to date, and that can be expected. Precommercial thinning will result in increased growth rates, reduced rotation times, and will effectively change species composition ln forest stands. The workshop will hopefully give you some insight into the effect of thinning on future wood supply. The agenda is organized to provide you with a description of an ongoing program, how the programs are monitored and controlled, and how prescriptions are developed. Growth results of past efforts and growth predictions based upon today's efforts will be described.
