Since the beginning of the wood pulp industry pulpwood has been measured by a unit known as the cord. As a measure of solid wood volume the cord is quite variable. Several units and methods have been studied but weight scaling has been the most successful attempt to replace or refine cord measure in pulpwood purchasing. Weight scaling has proven be an equitable measure of pulpwood in the south and because of this success, mills in the Northeast have become interested in this method of pulpwood purchasing.
