A vulnerability rating scheme to spruce budworm damage has been devised for forest management units based on the abundance of host species, degree of maturity of these hosts, and average long-term climate. A vulnerability index has been calculated for each forest management unit of insular Newfoundland and the one unit delineated in Labrador. Management units on the west coast, in Labrador, and on or near the Bonavista Peninsula rated Very High, High, and moderate in central Newfoundland and on the Avalon Peninsula. No management unit rated low.
