Today few people would argue with the statement that the "intensity of forest management has greatly increased within the State of Maine in recent years and in all probability will continue increase at an even greater rate in future years." In anticipation of the increased demand for forest products, landowners and the School of Forest Resources have joined hands in an effort to provide a sound scientific base for more intensive management of our forests by the formation of the Cooperative Forestry Research Unit (CFRU). Dr. Knight explained the structure and funding of CFRU at our meeting last April.
