The expanding population and industrial production of the United States have resulted in continually increasing raw material demands for construction and manufacturing purposes. The use of wood, which accounts for 20% of these material, is expected to increase sharply by the year 2000 according the U.S. Forest Service (1955) estimates. In the future increased wood consumption can be realized only through intensive forest management and greater utilization of the available raw materials in the forests.
