In 1977, the United States Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Department of the Environment agreed to cooperate in a 6-year expanded and accelerated research program called CANUSA. The overall goal of the CANUSA pro- gram was to develop economical and environmentally acceptable strategies to control the spruce budworm and to manage budworm susceptible forests. As part of the CANUSA program, The Lake States Spruce Budworm Technology Transfer Program was organized in 1981. Researchers from the Department of Entomology, Michigan State University, and The School of Natural Resources, The University of Michigan, have worked together to help information specialists and forest managers find the answers to specific problems related to the spruce budworm in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
