The larch casebearer, Coleophora laricella Hubner, infested the trees in the International Larch Provenance Trial located on the Newcomb Tract of the University of Michigan Forest Properties some time prior to 1968 when the first outbreak took place. Partly because of the continual increase in the insect population trial this somewhat isolated infestation provided a unique opportunity to study the trends of a relatively persistent casebearer population.
