An investigation was conducted to determine the effects of particle geometry on the mechanical and physical properties of eastern spruce flakeboard. A standard, liquid urea-formaldehyde adhesive, was utilized in the fabrication of flakeboard panels. Two different flake lengths, flake thicknesses, and panel densities were employed and evaluated as to their effect on bending strength, modulus of elasticity, internal bond, screw withdrawal strength and dimensional stability. In conjunction with the strength analysis, a microscopic evaluation of resin distribution was also conducted.
